Star Gazing on Exmoor

Orions Belt ExmoorEver heard of ‘Dark Sky Tourism’? Neither have I but we had some B&B guests last year who came to stay in Exmoor to see the night sky in all its glory.  I’ve just read the latest Exmoor Tourism Newsletter which brought it to my attention again.

Apparently it’s a growing hobby for many enthusiasts and apparently ”Exmoor has some of the best dark skies” in the UK.  The BBC recently ran a series on ‘Stargazing Live’, and the National Park Authourity are working with local partners on a bid to secure Exmoor as a Dark Sky Reserve stating it as “a real opportuntiy for local businesses to highlight the dark skies of Exmoor as a unique asset”.

And as part of Stargazing Live the National Park Authority is hosting a special Dark Sky Discovery event tonight, Saturday 8th January, at the Tithe Barn in Dunster. I think its fairly booked out with over 200 people already signing up, but its a drop in session so you might still be able to get it!  It’s something different to do if you’re bored of the same old thing!
